101 Family Feud Questions for Family Game Night

It’s time to bring back the family game night. When your kids were little, you made a big effort to organize family game nights. You made themed dinners and fun snacks. You went all out for your family game nights to help give your kiddos memories they would cherish forever.

Then they grew up and got cell phones. They have social circles and schedules. They have commitments they have to keep. Suddenly, they’re the real-life version of 13 going on 30 and game nights took a backseat to trips to the mall or soccer tournaments.

As you open your board game closet you might get hit with a pang of nostalgia. There lie all the family favorites – Sorry, Chutes and Ladders, Mouse Trap.

Oh, the hours your family used to spend playing them.

You hear a distant echo of giggles ringing in your ears, and you wonder how to recapture some of that fun.

How do you get them to stop growing up?

How do you get them to put down their phones and electronics and gather together?

It’s the lament of so many parents.

Well, you can’t stop them from growing up, and cell phones are pretty tough to combat, but you can at least play some better games.

Your kids aren’t little kids anymore. They need games that match their ages, and you need something where you can work together as a team.

How to Play Family Feud

How to Play Normal Rounds

  1. Choose one person in the group of players to become the game’s “host”. The host in a game of family feud is the only player who can see the questions and the answers.
  2. The remaining players should be then split into two teams. For each of the questions, one player from each team should be chosen to hear the question first. That player will then have one chance to answer the question. Whichever player gets the most points in answer to the question will go back to their team and that team will start the round.
  3. The players from the team then guess one at a time, in order. If an answer to the question overlaps with the previous answer, the host will ask the player to guess once again. If the answer to the question seems too vague then the host will then tell that player to be more specific. When a player answers a question incorrectly, the team will earn a strike. If the team guesses all of the answers before earning three strikes, the total value of all of the answers given is added to their overall score.
  4. If the team gets three strikes, the other team will then have one chance to guess one of the remaining answers. If they guess this answer correctly, they then get to steal all of the correct points that had been previously given by the other team.

How to Play Fast Money

  1. After the first three rounds of the game, the team who is winning chooses two players who must leave the room.
  2. One of those players returns and is given five fast money questions. They only have one chance to answer these questions. The total amount of points for those answers are then added up.
  3. The second player who left the room then also returns and answers those questions in the same way. This time, however, if they duplicate one of the answers, they must give another guess. The total amount of points from this player’s answers are the also totaled up.
  4. If both of the points totals add up to over 200 points, then that team is declared as the overall winner of the game.
  5. This round is usually timed and is designed to put the player’s on the spot, making this round more difficult than the normal rounds.

Other Ways to Play

No Teams

This simply means that the game is played as a free-for-all where every person in the room tries to guess the answer. This can become quite a loud game if you’re having a large gathering. In this version of the game, scoring is optional. Everyone has much more fun once all of the answers are guessed, so it is often a good idea to allow the host to give out a few hints along the way until all of the answers are revealed.

Pen and Paper

This is quite a popular version of the game. To play, all the questions are read in a row. Each player can take one guess for each of the questions by writing their answers onto a piece of paper or on their phone. After all of the questions have been read out, each player tallies up their overall score and the player with the highest score wins.

Pen and Paper, Fast Money Only

This is better for when there are smaller groups of people playing the game. If two players guess the same answer, the points are only awarded to one person, and the team must try to break 200 total, just like in the real show.

Literal Words

This is where the host only accepts the answers exactly how they appear on the page. Another version of this is where the host’s discretion is advised.

Repeat Customers

Once you have asked all of the questions that you can find, return to them a week later. It is surprising just how many of the original answers people don’t remember.

101 Family Feud Questions

Enter Family Feud.

It’s been entertaining families on television for decades, and it’s super easy to set up in your home.

What’s even better is that you can connect with another family for a game night, or split your large family into 2 teams.

It’s a chance to bring everyone together.

You can purchase an edition of Family Feud with survey questions and responses included, but you can also make your own version of the game.

All you need are the Family Feud questions, the top survey answers, a hand buzzer or a bell, and 3 red X’s to hand out when someone gets an answer wrong. You’ll also want to have a stopwatch or timer.

The advantage of making your own Family Feud questions is that you don’t have to invest money in a game for no real reason. You can tailor your questions to your family and its range of ages, and you have a literally unlimited supply of questions on that ready.

Preparing the game will take you some time because you need to research both good questions and the correct survey responses.

What Is a Dirty Martini?

What Is a Dirty Martini?

So, do you know what is a dirty martini? Either you just turned twenty-one, have never had a drop of alcohol in your life, or you have just been living under a rock for the last fifty years.

But, don’t worry. We are not here to judge you.

We are here to inform you and educate you. By the end of this blog, you will know everything you’ve ever wanted to when asking yourself, “Exactly what is a dirty martini?”

Let’s start with the first layer of the question in, “what is a dirty martini?” By unfolding what a regular (AKA - not dirty?) martini is.

But First… What Is a Martini?

A martini is a simple and classic cocktail. Merriam-Webster defines it as “a cocktail made of gin and dry vermouth.”

The martini is said to have originated for medicinal purposes.

The story of the martini starts with gin, a simple mixture of grain alcohol and juniper berry oil. In the 17th century Francois de Boe Sylvius, a Dutch medical professor, sought to relieve kidney disorders and purify the blood.

“Genever” is the Dutch word for Juniper and was the first step that served as an elixir to ease kidney pain, stomachaches, gout, and gallstones. Gin and Genever were both relatively easy and affordable to produce so their popularity quickly soared to become useful in other fields besides just the medical field.

Vermouth: Where Does It Come From?

Vermouth is the second component to creating the perfect martini. Vermouth originates as a wine used as a dessert in the 1700’s mainly in Italy. The word “Vermouth” is a German derivative of the English word “wormwood.”

Wormwood has been used for ages to treat intestinal worms, jaundice, and rheumatism.

Vermouth was originally made from a blend of juniper, wormwood flowers, orange peel, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, mace, marjoram, brandy, white wine, and tree bark.

The modern version of Vermouth is a mix of white wine infused with a delicious herb and spice blend accompanied by alcohol, sugar, and just a hint of caramel.

The History Behind the Martini’s Name

Let’s jump over to where the martini received its name. There are many different accounts and stories.

Some say the martini was invented in New York City by a bartender named Martini.

Others insist a Professor named Jerry Thomas invented the famous cocktail in 1850 for a miner on his way to Martinez, California. It is said that the miner set a piece of gold on top of Jerry’s bar and asked him to concoct something extra special for his journey’s west. The product was the first martini prototype, the Martinez.

The Martinez makes its first published appearance in 1887 in The Bartender’s Guide.

What Is a Dirty Martini?

We have discussed the origins and history of the classic martini - but what is a dirty martini?

The unique quality of a dirty martini is olive juice. Yes, you heard it right – olive juice!

Olive juice is the answer to the commonly asked question “what is a dirty martini?”

The olive juice adds a slightly cloudy appearance to the cocktail and without a doubt, a unique and salty taste. A dirty martini is the perfect mixture of gin, dry vermouth, olives, and a small amount of olive juice or olive brine.

Most bartenders and consistent dirty martini drinkers will say that making a dirty martini is an art. It requires the highest quality ingredients, a flawlessly chilled martini glass, and the correct portion of dirty martini ingredients - shaken to perfection.

The creation of a dirty martini is a widely discussed and important topic in the world of bars, drinkers, and the art of alcohol. Drinkers of dirty martinis tend to be extremely choosy when it comes to their dirty martini and its seamless composition.

Vodka or Gin

Ah, the age old debate of whether a proper martini should contain vodka or gin.

We could toot each type of liquor’s horn, but we are going to leave it to your taste preference. If you like gin, make your dirty martini with gin. If you like vodka, make your dirty martini with vodka.

Vodka adds a certain earthiness because of its grains and rooted vegetable base (usually potatoes).

Gin cuts straight to the chase and is sourced from the rich and flavorful juniper botanicals. Gin also contains notes of spices and herbs so if that is your thing, a classic gin dirty martini is probably your best bet.

If you really want to get down to the heart of the matter, gin is really just a type of flavored vodka.

Getting the Job Done with a Car Maintenance Guide

Getting the Job Done with a Car Maintenance Guide

The car needs work. The garage charges more than you can afford. The work doesn’t sound like much. The garage only needs an hour to complete the job. If you had the right tools and a comprehensive car maintenance guide, you’re sure you could do the work yourself. The weekend is free. Your neighbor volunteered to help. How do you make your decision?

car maintenance guide

Should You Do the Work Yourself?

First things first, check with your local parts store or go on line to a reputable provider like Lisle Tools to get your hands on a good, comprehensive car maintenance guide for your year, make, and model car. Don’t assume the job will be an easy one until you have read the steps required to complete the work start to finish.

Next, check the tools you’ll need. Do you have everything? Can you rent them or will you need to buy them? Don’t try to use substitutes, the job will be twice as hard or you may break something else in the process.

Third, are all the parts available and at what price?

Now that you know the real cost, time, and difficulty of tackling the job yourself, you can make a more informed decision as to whether the DIY route is the way to go. If so, gather your guide, tools, and parts together and make sure you have everything before you start. There is nothing more frustrating than being in the middle of the job and finding yourself back at the store looking for a part that might not be in stock. Don’t forget the car maintenance guide. You may have done this job a hundred times, but if this one time, something goes wrong, you’ll be glad you have it.

Benefits of DIY Car Maintenance

Why would you take on the job of car maintenance in the first place with all the technology resident in cars today? Isn’t it easier to take your car to the garage? Certainly, but there are several advantages to the DIY route, at least for simple maintenance.

  • You become more familiar with your car
  • You gain the satisfaction of completing something outside your comfort zone
  • You gain confidence that you can fix simple things should they break on the open road
  • You are less likely to be “taken in” by unscrupulous mechanics
  • You save money in most cases

Today’s cars are certainly not as simple as granddad’s Model-T, but that should not deter you from knowing as much as you can about the operation of your car and handling the simple maintenance tasks associated with it. Get a good comprehensive guide, do your homework, take your time, and have fun.
